TECH 7
Top seven 21st Century Tools for the Classroom.
My list is not in any specific order, so get your pen and paper and see if you are making the grade as a 21st Century School.
Every 21st Century School must have certain essential technology tools in an effort to be current with education trends as it relates to technology and the use of technology in the school environment.
I have just compiled a basic list of 21st Century Tools that all schools should have that will place them amongst the ranks of schools that are using current and emerging technologies to impact and or make a difference in the lives of children as well as the teacher that teaches.
1. LCD Projector
This gives the teacher the opportunity to present a lesson
through visual presentation and students have the ability
to retain more information through the use of this technology.
The projector is accompanied with a computer or screen for projection.
2. Digital Cameras
No one could have ever expected that digital cameras
would have made such a positive impact in the classroom for both
teachers and students alike. Many assignments are taking on a different twist.
Teachers are giving more project-based lessons from real life aspects or
perspectives. Digital Camera captures the real life; it is in these examples
that students are able to identify subjects and relate them to topics of study.
3. Video Cameras/DVD's
Integrating Video in the classroom has prompted teachers
to let their creative juices flow. Teachers can make their lessons
stronger by a video lesson that teaches a particular subject
that can come across more clearly than standing in front of a room
dictating in a repetitive tone.
4. Laptop/Notebook Computer
Here's my list of reasons why:
It is more accessible
It is more portable
It takes up less space
It is easier to disconnect and put away.
5. A Flash Drive
It stores a large amount of information. It is compact and convenient
to carry around. It is not prune to be infected with viruses
nor damages easily as the 3 1/2 floppy disk usually did.
6. Instructional Software
Schools should invest in instructional software such as
Destination Reading & Math, Open Book Language and others
that help build or strengthen skills in students as it relates
to their specific needs. There are lists to choose from.
Usually companies give schools a 30 day evaluation to check out the
product and see whether it would be beneficial to the school needs.
Schools should research and take advantage of this
and make the best possible decisions for the school.
7. The Interactive Whiteboard (Activboard)
I saved the best for last...
You can incorporate all those tools listed above with
the Interactive Whiteboard and its software.
The possibilities are limitless. Although the boards are costly,
schools should plan to include the purchasing of
the boards in their budgets and or technology plans.
